The practice was established in 1952 and has undergone many changes in the following years. It has evolved from a mixed rural practice serving a very large area to the north of Adelaide to a pet only practice on the metropolitan fringe and Barossa Valley regions. The original base was in Willaston at its current site. A branch clinic was established in the early 1960’s at Elizabeth Grove to service the growing pet population in that region. This clinic was moved to Smithfield in 1991 where it is located today. In 2002 the Tanunda Veterinary clinic was purchased and the decision was made to restrict our activities to the domestic pet market only. This was a difficult decision to make as we had enjoyed the support of many rural clients over many years.
A large number of Veterinarians have worked in the practice over the period, many of whom have been new graduates from the various Veterinary schools in Australia. The variety of work performed has given these new vets a very solid grounding in Veterinary Practice and has been an invaluable factor in their professional success. We have seen many outstanding vets provide a great contribution to the practice and an exemplary level of service to our clients and patients.
The current owner Dr Tony Atyeo joined the practice in 1973 as a new graduate from the University of Sydney. He commenced ownership as a partner in 1975 and assumed sole ownership in 1996 following the retirement of the remaining partner. Tony currently employs associate veterinarians to maintain the service for which the practice is renowned. With the help of nursing and administration staff at all three sites we endeavour to provide a ‘gold standard’ level of service for all our clients.
As with most professions, the advances in technology and knowledge require constant attention to professional development, equipment upgrades and the adoption of modern practices. All members of the team undertake an ongoing training programme to ensure we provide the high level of care our clients expect.
